Fire PPE

Fire PPE is specified by a number of NFPA codes, including NFPA 1001, NFPA 1500 and NFPA 1971. The type of fire PPE varies based on the situation. One of the major differences is between wildland fire fighting and structural fires and the intensity of the fire.

NFPA 101

The Life Safety Code, known as NFPA 101 provides standards written to minimize the effects of hazards created by fires in buildings. NFPA 101 standards apply to the design, construction and use of buildings, including establishing criteria for stairwells, exit paths and exits.

NFPA Symbols

The most commonly recognized NFPA symbol is the NFPA diamond. It is used to quickly show the hazard level of a material in three categories: health, flammability and stability. Plus it provides for displaying special hazard information.

NFPA Labels

An NFPA label can consist of just the NFPA 704 diamond, or it may include additional information. All that NFPA requires is the NFPA diamond. So it is the NFPA diamond that defines a label as being an NFPA label.

NFPA Ratings

The NFPA Hazard Rating System is also simply called the NFPA Ratings. This is a rating system used to indicate the health, flammability, reactivity and special hazards for many common chemicals. It uses the NFPA 704 Diamond to display hazard ratings for these four categories.
